"Calm your fetlocks, Flux. I'm right here."
Page strolled into the room, dropping his pilfered floorboards on the ground.
"Firewood. Easy peasy. Our good doctor is currently sequestered in some servants quarters. I think I came on a wee bit strong for him."

Flux Sighed. "Oh well. Thanks for the wood Page. I really needed that." Flux set about carving some thin shavings off of one of the thinner boards with a small knife he had in his pack. "While I work on this kindling, somepony else might look into finding something to make bedding out of. If we're going to have to camp out here tonight, it's only going to get colder."

"I can go get some bedding. I'm sure Old Man Miner left some mattresses around here. I just hope he didn't also leave behind jars of urine." Chiselle saw Flux looked at her sideways, "Hey, you should read up on some influential people in the Zeppelin Industry, some of them were nuts. Anyways, I shall be back shortly." Chiselle trotted out of the room and down the halls to parts unknown.

Digitalis returned to the study, still somewhat embarrassed, but bearing the firewood from the servant's quarters. "This should last us a while if we're careful, sir," he said to Flux, "As for bedding, in a house this large there should be more than enough actual winter bedding for all of us, no sewing required. If this is the Master's study as opposed to the household library," he said, now more talking himself through his own plan than to Flux, "the Master Bedroom should be nearby, meaning a linen closet should be too." He started to head off down the hall. "This shouldn't take too long. Call if you need anything, sir!"

She doesnt seem to realize yet that this place is dangerous!" He turned back to his kindling and began building the fire. He stopped and looked at Coin and Page. "I'm not sure any of us know quite how dangerous yet. Something, or somepony, threw that pick at me and it's too frigid out there for them to have left yet." He put some of the smaller of Page's planks in the fireplace. "Which means we're not alone here."

"Yes, clearly somepony or something is dwelling inside the mansion."
Page stared at the wall.
"Some fearsome ghoul...or a roguishly handsome ghost, defending his property. Or some cultured shut in in a cape scurrying through the walls.....what were we talking about?"

"The possibility that this house is haunted by some terrifying being wandering this house, probably dripping with goo, that tried to pickaxe me in the head." With a final piece of wood, Flux stood and lit a rolled up bit of paper on the candlestick, and threw it onto the woodpile. Little by little the fire lit and roared in the fireplace. It took a moment, but the smoke was quickly sucked up through the chimney. "And there we have it. Warmth and comfort right here in the haunted mansion."

The storm can't last forever." "Honestly I have no idea who or what's in here," he he said lowly, "What I do know is that whatever it is is strong enough to throw a pick at us. If it's a pony, I think there's enough of us to take it on. If it's a ghost... well... let's just hope it's not a ghost." He glanced towards the closed drapes that hung over the window, the howl of the wind whistling down the chimney. "As for our options, I don't think it's at all safe to try to leave yet. We have to stay at least until this storm slows down."

After a bit of thought, Digitalis elected to find Chiselle before the linen closet. All things considered, he reasoned, it would probably be best if the group stayed at least in pairs.
"Let's see, the kitchen is back that way," he muttered to himself, "... but we're on the second floor, so... odd. Then, by the dumbwaiter..." He resolved to head downstairs and head in the general direction of the kitchen. It wasn't particularly likely, he admitted, given the extraordinary circumstances, that Chiselle would search out the dining room just to eat one meal, alone, but that one meal was reasonably fancy, and given her artistic, and therefore no doubt at least slightly romantic leanings, so his great-grandmother would have insisted, a rich stallion's dining room would be the perfect setting to enhance the flavor. Besides, he recalled that she'd requested someone to eat with her.
He had to admit, the master of the house may well have been insane, but he had excellent tastes for what the doctor assumed to be a self-made-stallion. The paintings and drawings on the walls of breathtaking landscapes and of the house and town in different conditions and of innumerable well-dressed ponies, though mostly by painters he had never heard of, were still clearly their masterpieces. The curtains were velvet, not velveteen (as one old mare had told him, a gentlecolt in his position would need to know the difference). The carpets, though quite dusty and faded in some areas, exposed all day, every day to the Sun by curtains not drawn in Heaven-knew-how-long. Despite the somber atmosphere, the lunatics or ghosts possibly lurking in the walls, and the many rich ponies looking somewhat condescendingly down at him from behind their frames, Dr. Digitalis began to feel comfortable.
At last the blue-eyed stallion approached the dining room. "Miss Chiselle?" he called, "Miss Chiselle, are you in there? Mr. Flux insists that someone stay with you while you wander the house. It could be dangerous." No response. She must have decided to look for bedding first. Luckily most of the guest bedrooms on each floor were fairly close to each other. He wandered back to the last one he remembered passing, calling her name all the while.

Chiselle was in one of the numerous guest room. Her horn lit up with a silver light as she pulled the dusty blankets and covers off. She let out a cute, little cough as the dust came flying off and hit her in the face. "Okay, next time we just slide them off," she muttered to herself. She got up onto the bed and gently walk over the mattress, which was a single. "Kind of lumpy, def. stuffed with hay or feathers instead of being box spring. Not a bad consistency. I think this shall be my mattress. The dust bunnies can have the blankets and covers."
She stepped off the mattress, closed her eyes and with as much will and effort as the small mare could muster, she used her magic to lift the mattress. It lifted with ease, the mare opened up her eyes and smiled. "What was I thinking, I move around giant stones on a regular basis."
Proud and a bit full of herself, Chiselle walked out of the bedroom and trotted into the hall. She then ran into something solid, which cause her and the mattress come crashing down. "Ugh, who left the pile of bricks in the middle of the hallway?" She moaned before she could see that it was Digitalis, "Oh...hey..."

"'Pile of bricks'? Why, Miss Chiselle, I'm flattered." Digitalis dusted himself off. "Are you okay? Either way, Mister Flux says I should stay with you. He's worried you might not be taking our possible situation as seriously as you should be." Just then the house groaned, and several mice skittered away in the walls. "Uh, all things considered, there might be something in here with us. We're safer at least in pairs."

"Uh, all things considered, there might be something in here with us. We're safer at least in pairs." Chiselle dusted herself off and dismissed Digitalis's concern with a wave of her hoof. "Flux worries too much. I mean yea, this is an eccentric old house, but that because it was built by an eccentric old stallion. I've collected myths and urban legends and honestly, the old stallion probably just died in his sleep. The whole murder and haunting was made up by fillies and colts trying to scare one another on Nightmare Night." She then walked over to a pair of candle holders that were hung on the wall, "I mean, what's the worse that could happen? I pull on this candlestick and fall into some deep hole?" Chiselle reached up for the candlestick, pulled down and before she could speak another word, the wall swung open and swept her behind the wall. The next thing that was heard was a loud girlish scream that echoed throughout the house.

The doctor stood stunned for a few minutes. He couldn't honestly say he expected this, but given his knowledge of ghost stories and the meaning of the word "eccentric" in high society, he also couldn't honestly say that Chiselle's petty treason was strictly sensible. He leaned closer to the wall. "M-M-Miss Chiselle?" He lowered his head and stamped his hooves, speaking louder to the floorboards. "Miss Chiselle, can you hear me? A-Are you alright? I won't say Mr. Flux told us so, but..." Digitalis sighed. If the trap did drop her into a hole, as she predicted, she probably couldn't hear him. He took a moment to pilfer a pillow and bed set before heading back to the study.
"Well, Mr. Flux," he said, walking straight to his trunk to retrieve his medicine chest, "feel free to say 'I told you so', b-because Chiselle was just shoved into the wall. Possibly into a very deep hole. M-Might I request that you help formulate a rescue plan to distract me before the panic sets in and I become completely useless?"

Chiselle knocked on the door, "Hello? Can anyone hear me?" She then banged her forehead against the door, "You always were a strong headed mare," Chiselle mockingly recited in her mother's voice. "Welp, no use just sitting around here like a dolt. Let's see what we got here." Chiselle lit up her horn until it cast a silver light in the dark, cobweb and spider web filled passageway. "Well...this is...lovely." Chiselle tentatively put one hoof in front of the other, walking down the long dark corridor. "Hello? Anyone here? Please don't let me find a skeleton of a dead pony?"
