Coin had noticed someone else come in, but had not gotten a good look at him or her. "Are you finding everything alright?" She called out. "Yea, I'm doing okay," she called out to the female voice. Must be the shop-owner, she thought to herself. "If I may, ma'am," Digitalis interrupted, approaching from behind, "Find some hay that's still green, if you can, and roast it. My mother used to add daisy heads." He sorted through his saddlebag, retrieving a pocket watch. "It's getting cold awfully quickly, isn't it? I hope the trains don't close early." Chiselle looked back to see a gray unicorn with striking black hair and piercing blue eyes. A soft smile showed on her face, "Hey, thanks. I'll try that. Why are you concerned about the trains? Going somewhere?" "I'm hoping to, yes ma'am. Family business," he said, looking around the store, "There's a mine near here, isn't there? Do you know if there's any copper in it? I'm looking for a certain mineral, you see, and I couldn't find any of it by the..." He paused. "'Souvenirs'," he said, referring to the small collection of rocks and small crystals elsewhere in the store. There was a resort relatively close by, but from what he saw, aside from a few climbers, the tourists rarely considered Winter Haven as more than a rest stop to and from there, making "souvenir" a questionable term. "Would you happen to know anyone who might have a more extensive collection?"

I usually go up there from time to time for crafting supplies, marbles, granite, things like that." She then eyed the stallion as he took a pause between 'the' and 'Souvenirs.' "Well, I guess you could go to the market, the mine usually has a kiosk set-up, but you'd probably have better luck going to the mine itself."

Clay pushed on through freezing wind; it felt like razors across his face. What was the weather team thinking? he wondered to himself. Beneath him the dirt road became a paved street, and around him the trees fell away, and he saw through squinted eyes the edge of the town proper. On one side, log homes shuttered up tight against the weather; on the other, shops, half of them also closed. A few minutes more brought him to the general store. To one side of the door was a sign that advertised firewood. Beneath the sign was a conspicuous absence of firewood. Sold out... Branch thought. Can't say I'm surprised.. At least he could get out of the storm for a few moments. Clay pushed through the doors and shook the snow from his head. He spotted the shopkeeper. "Miss? Excuse me..." he walked closer. "Sorry, but it seems like you're out of firewood. The weather being as it is, I don't think you can blame me for asking if you know who else might have some." "Running out of firewood is common, particularly with the upcoming storm. I am sorry sir, but I am not expecting another delivery before the storm. Everyone else is going to be stocking up, so they are not likely to be selling. I am not sure where you can get more wood, short of chopping it down yourself."

Clay sighed. "Maybe if it warms up around midday, I can cut some firewood. Do you have an axe, or a hatchet?"

"Tools like that are in high demand and low supply this time of the year. But I will see what I can find, sir." She left and went into the back of the story, but quickly returned, bearing a hatchet. "I found something for you." She took a good look at Clay's face. "You're not from around here, are you? I know most of the locals here."

"If you plan on staying in these parts of the woods, you'd better get an axe," Flux said as he wandered over. "You'll need it if a tree falls in your front yard. However, if there's not one in stock right now, you can certainly borrow mine if you need to.."

The wind pounded against the worn wooden door that separated the mine from the outside world as Silver wiped the sweat from her brow. Her cart and saddlebags now filled with as many chunks of various minerals and metals as they could hold, she slipped on her ragged coat, tied a tarp over the cart, and pushed the door open. To her surprise and slight dismay, the flimsy piece of wood required quite a bit of force to open as it revealed the mound of snow that had piled against it. Silver looked down the narrow path that led back to town... or, at least, where it was.
"Well. This'll be fun."

I'm a general medic, but my specialty is making medications." Digitalis thought for a moment, back to earlier that day as well as about a month prior, when he'd moved in. "Tell me; you've lived here a while, yes? Is there anything or... any pony I should be concerned about? I heard some stories about weather trouble and troublemakers from the movers; were they just having a laugh at my expense?"

"Everypony around here is pretty much normal, Winter Haven can be a sleepy little town tucked away in the mountains, but it's our own slice of paradise, so we're kinda proud of it. Although, there is one bookstore slash writer you should be weary of. I forgot his name but he kind of has a reputation of well...hopping into a different bed every night, if you get my meaning." Chiselle rolled her eyes and let out a soft chuckle. "With you being a doctor, and well...a stallion, he'll probably make you his next conquest. I only know of him through my artists friends...especially the umm...fancier ones." Chiselle paused to pull a jug of milk out of the freezer and placed it in her basket. "So, what made you decide to move to our humble little town? I'm sure a doctor like you would have better business in a city like Manehatten or Canterlot."

You're blowing my cover." To the bemusement of anyone with sense, there was a Unicorn hiding in the freezer, wrapped in a coat with the pricetag still on it. "I've ran from my share of angry wives, but never one that persistent...I should have sneaked back to her house and...nah. I'm bored of that guy now."

All Chiselle could do was let out a girly scream and slam the door in Page's face. She then just stared at it wide eye before slowly opening it again.
"Ummm....hello Magical Freezer Pony?"

"My name is not Magical Freezer Pony."
He climbed out of the freezer, shaking the frost off his glasses.
"I am Page Turner. Purveyor of fine literature."
He turned his attention to Digitalis.
"Hey, handsome. You aren't married are you?"

Digitalis fought to maintain a stern and, if not off-putting then at least unappealing demeanor, tilting his head down slightly and looking, almost glaring, over the frames of his glasses, much in the manner of a disgruntled librarian. "No, Sir, I am not," he said, rather curt. All in all, this may have been effective, but Chiselle's information and Page Turner's sudden appearance left the gray unicorn somewhat less than composed, with a faint but unmistakably traitorous blush.
