Flux just groaned. "Page you causing trouble again? And why are you in the fridge? I thought you came out years ago."

Clay sighed. "Maybe if it warms up around midday, I can cut some firewood. Do you have an axe, or a hatchet?" Coin thought for a moment. "Tools like that are in high demand and low supply this time of the year. But I will see what I can find, sir." She left and went into the back of the story, but quickly returned, bearing a hatchet. "I found something for you." She took a good look at Clay's face. "You're not from around here, are you? I know most of the locals here." "Thanks," Clay said, and he took the hatchet and withdrew a few bits from a coat pocket. "No, I'm not from around here. I needed a quiet space to do some writing during my sabbatical, and this town seemed to fit the bill. I wasn't anticipating weather like this, though.""If you plan on staying in these parts of the woods, you'd better get an axe," Flux said as he wandered over. "You'll need it if a tree falls in your front yard. However, if there's not one in stock right now, you can certainly borrow mine if you need to.." Turning to the unicorn, he said, "I think it's been taken care of, thanks. Though right now, a tree falling in my front yard would be pretty welcome. I wouldn't have to go as far for firewood. I don't think I've got enough to last through this storm." Looking past Flux, he narrowed his eyes. "Is that a stallion hiding in the dairy section?"

"Everypony around here is pretty much normal, Winter Haven can be a sleepy little town tucked away in the mountains, but it's our own slice of paradise, so we're kinda proud of it. Although, there is one bookstore slash writer you should be weary of. I forgot his name but he kind of has a reputation of well...hopping into a different bed every night, if you get my meaning." Chiselle rolled her eyes and let out a soft chuckle. "With you being a doctor, and well...a stallion, he'll probably make you his next conquest. I only know of him through my artists friends...especially the umm...fancier ones." Chiselle paused to pull a jug of milk out of the freezer and placed it in her basket. "So, what made you decide to move to our humble little town? I'm sure a doctor like you would have better business in a city like Manehatten or Canterlot." "Hey, get a different jug! You're blowing my cover." To the bemusement of anyone with sense, there was a Unicorn hiding in the freezer, wrapped in a coat with the pricetag still on it. "I've ran from my share of angry wives, but never one that persistent...I should have sneaked back to her house and...nah. I'm bored of that guy now." Page had managed to slip into the freezer unnoticed by Coin, but she noticed him now. She darted over to him. She let a trace of anger slip into her normally calm voice. "What. Are you doing. In my freezer?" She noticed the price tag on his coat. "And where. did you get that coat?"

Digitalis fought to maintain a stern and, if not off-putting then at least unappealing demeanor, tilting his head down slightly and looking, almost glaring, over the frames of his glasses, much in the manner of a disgruntled librarian. "No, Sir, I am not," he said, rather curt. All in all, this may have been effective, but Chiselle's information and Page Turner's sudden appearance left the gray unicorn somewhat less than composed, with a faint but unmistakably traitorous blush. "Well, that works out for me either way. I happened to overhear flanel here say you were a doctor. I've never landed a doctor before. But there's a first time for everything." "Oh, har har, Flux. With such biting wit, it baffles the mind that you're just a handypony." "Oh, settle down, lady. I was gonna put it back on the rack when I was finished. I just needed to borrow it. By the way, your freezer makes an excellent hiding spot."

Chiselle stared at Page Turner and blinked her eyes a few times in disbelief. "You're the pony that all of my fancier art friends are talking about? Really?"

He adjusted his glasses, getting a better look at her. "Oh, you must be Chiselle. Yes, I heard Brush Stroke mention you the last time we...stroked the brush, if you grasp the innuendo." He removed the coat, tossing it on Coins heads like she was a coatrack. "Charmed to meet you, I'm sure."

"If you were listening a moment ago, you'd have heard me introduce myself as Page Turner."
He extended his hoof as well...and used it to smooth his hair back.
"Much as I'd love to continue this conversation, I was supposed to open the store hours ago. Feel free to drop by if you're looking for quality literature. Or, in your case Dr. Handsome, something almost as fun."
He winked and spun around, almost strutting out the door.

Chiselle couldn't help but let out a snerk and then started laughing. "Oh Luna...that is what got Brush Stroke into bed?" She laughed harder, "Oh sweet Equestria, I think he used a potion or something because that is the biggest dork I've ever seen in my life!" Her laughing quickly died down and then regained her composure.
"So, there's a big storm coming, and I should probably finish shopping for provisions. I also need to finish shopping for what I hope is a lovely evening in. Just me, a glass of wine, a fine meal, and a block of wood to carve."

Digitalis stood on three legs, his front right folded across his chest. "He's... impertinent. Well, it's been a pleasure meeting you, Miss Chiselle, but I really must prepare my things and get out of town before the storm hits."
On exiting the store, Digitalis was greeted by a blast of cold air and and snow up to his pasterns. "Heavens, what are they even doing up there?!" He decided there could be no further delay. He galloped home as quickly as he could. He locked up the store, not bothering to take off his overcoat or hat, and retrieved the showglobe from its place in the window, dumping its now dull contents down the sink in his workroom. The doctor worked quickly, tying the globe to his trunk using the thin brass that had come with the brass-adorned glass ball, and hauled both behind him on a sled he'd borrowed for the purpose. Now all he had to do was buy the final ingredient from the mine, make his mixture, replace the globe and catch the soonest train toward home.
Simplicity itself.

Just a... little... farther...
Silver trudged through the snow, the wheels on her cart leaving deep fissures behind in an uneven trail from the forest. A heavy sigh of relief escaped her as she stumbled over a final snowbank, her hooves finally making contact with cobbled road instead of freezing fluff.
The wind seemed to let up a little as she entered Winter Haven; that familiar, homey feeling washing over her when she was able to see the stoic log homes and wave to the few ponies hurriedly trotting to their destinations in an effort to escape the cold. The miner's first and only order of business before heading to her house was to stop at her kiosk in the market. She moved behind the counter, swiftly taking down the sign reading, "Sorry! We're closed!" and replacing it with another pre-made one that read, "Kiosk closed due to weather. See me at the forge if you need anything. 747 Cherry Lane. - Silver."
I can't wait for a nice cup of hot chocolate... Maybe some eggnog, too, if I'm not still freezing.
The bundled-up pony began to hook herself back up to the cart, quite proud of the morning's haul.

He still wasn't quite sure where the mine was, but he felt he had a good idea of the layout of the streets; there weren't many, anyway. In only a few minutes he stood before 747 Cherry Lane. Swallowing his nervousness about the weather, he knocked with purpose. "Hello? Silver? Sir? Ma'am? I hate to intrude, but I have some business that I feel I should tend to before the storm sets in..." He trailed off and looked up at the sky, for a moment unsure that the storm hadn't already set in. "I apologize for the inconvenience, but I am willing to pay extra for your trouble!"

"Well that was an interesting way to start the morning." Flux moved back to the leftover Heartswarming cookies selecting a small box and placing it in a basket he had collected at the door. "So other than a few items that I need to pick up while I'm here, I think I'll head on down the road."
He moved to the selection of teas. "Coin, do you need anything else from me while I'm here?"

After a moment or two, the metallic sound of a few locks and chains being undone was followed by the door swinging open, revealing Silver standing on the other side with a soft pink knitted blanket wrapped around her back. She blinked, somewhat surprised to see the pony before her. He wasn't from here, and certainly didn't look the part either. "Hello," she said, offering a firm hoof. "It's no trouble at all. I opened for business not five minutes ago." She hesitated, looking outside at the snowy roads. "Come on in. I'd hate to leave you shivering on my porch."
