I thought I'd create this thread to help everyone understand our characters a little more by asking questions that would rarely (if ever) come up while actually roleplaying. This could also help develop your characters to make them better and more believable. It's the little things that make your character tick that make them awesome. Feel free to ask more questions if you wish. The possibilities are endless. Here's some that I thought of: What does your character's voice sound like? Is there a noticeable accent? What does your character generally smell like? What does your character's home look like? If your character has a bookshelf, or even a pile of magazines on the bathroom counter, what kinds do they own? How's your character's posture? Can you guess if they're confident or reclusive simply by looking at how they stand and walk? What's your character's cutie mark? (I feel like I shouldn't have to ask this, but I honestly don't know some of yours) Aside from color scheme, cutie mark, manestyle, and other generic and meaningless physical qualities, what is immediately noticeable and/or unique about your character? Also, take a look at this if you have some free time.

Honestly, I always thought Chiselle would have like a low pitch, but still feminine voice. She would sound like a teenager that just gotten into adulthood. She'd smell like chalk, wood shavings, sweat, and on rare occasion, she would smell like...well marijuana. Yes, I am being serious. Her home is two stories, on the first story she has her storefront and her workshop behind the storefront, the second floor is her living quarters, it looks like your typical apartment complex, although it is kind of messy and could use some cleaning up. Books on art, Industry books, she'd also have books on history and on pop music. She tend to walk kind of aloof, she's pretty laid back and just go with the flow, so that how she tends to carry herself. A wooden hammer and a chisel crossed with one another. Her piercings and the blue streak in her mane. Xirself? Are we in Tumblr now?

Smarmy and condescending. And a little like Dib from Invader Zim. Book dust, paper and body spray if he's had some midday company. Simple and straightforward. Bookshelves everywhere. Stands up straight and rigid. Except when he's flirting. Then he tends to lean against stuff. His attitude. You can tell "Sarcastic prick" the second you lay eye on him.

What does your character's voice sound like? Is there a noticeable accent? I've been imagining him sounding like Harrison Ford.
What does your character generally smell like? Nothing out of the ordinary, for the most part. Sweat, dust, gasoline, and a variety of other things if he's just come back from fieldwork.
What does your character's home look like? Small and clean, but with academic papers and archaeological knickknacks everywhere in a sort of organized chaos.
If your character has a bookshelf, or even a pile of magazines on the bathroom counter, what kinds do they own? Mostly books and academic journals about ancient civilizations, ancient legends, and history.
How's your character's posture? Can you guess if they're confident or reclusive simply by looking at how they stand and walk? Clay's posture is fairly self-assured without being imposing or aggressive.
What's your character's cutie mark? (I feel like I shouldn't have to ask this, but I honestly don't know some of yours) The image I grabbed for it was a generic meso-American pyramid. I tried to find a drawing that was simplistic enough to be identifiable when shrunk down to flank size, but I guess I failed.

Depending on what Digitalis has been working on he often smells antiseptic or sometimes dusty, if he winds up coated in some kind of powder that doesn't pose any sort of threat to public health and safety, but he might sometimes smell like any number of flavors, if he's been flavoring medications or making candy.
His home is upstairs from his store, both are old-fashioned in decor and meticulously organized.
His bookshelves are widely varied in their contents, but mostly contain various medical journals and reference books, old yearbooks and family scrapbooks, a few mystery novels for his own amusement, and a couple trashy romance paperbacks his sister sometimes sends to embarrass him.
His posture is almost always textbook perfect in public (or "public") and generally walks slowly but with confidence, because that's how he was always taught "young gentlecolts of Our station and excellent breeding must always present themselves".
His cutie mark is a Bowl of Hygieia, the symbol of his specialty, but it's often mostly hidden under his ever-present lab coat.
The more attentive might find it odd that he hides his cutie mark, or that he acts like a stuffy aristocrat but lives in a tiny little mining town in the middle of nowhere and, if they pry, was born and raised and has always lived in a podunk little town in the middle of nowhere. Those less attentive or less inclined to think about that sort of thing might notice that he wears full body-covering clothes all the time, which we've seen is generally only done by city-folk and the wealthy.

So, I'm not too happy with how Chiselle is progressing so far, but hopefully I can turn it around.

It happens. I think I painted myself into a corner with Clay's misunderstanding of the situation, but I think it'll all turn out alright. Some of these characters just need time to grow the beard.

Well I have this idea of what I want Chiselle to be, I just have to figure out how to execute it when I'm working with several other authors.
She's supposed to be this laid back pony who generally take things in strides until she's pushed to her limits, then she starts pushing back. She can be sarcastic and will sometimes crack jokes at other ponies expenses, but she doesn't mean anything malicious by it. She's obviously into art, and she's into urban legends and myths, etc. She's not the smartest pony around (C average in school) and that can sometimes get her into trouble.

Well, after Clay threw a pickaxe at Flux's head, Chiselle was definitely the most laid-back of their group, so she's got that going. She also was the one who brought up the urban legend about the spooky ghost miner. A mansion like this probably has some sculptures, so that's a missed opportunity to show her passion for art - or maybe not, since they haven't left yet. So find a way to make her clueless about something and you're set.

I've been itching to talk a little about Digi's family, but he's not given to talking about it and things have been so hectic no one's asked, so I'm not sure how to breach the subject naturally. He's got a number of things on his person that could lead into that, but...

Well, we could always end this current arc with the group around the fire, a picture falls out of Digi's coat and he tells an amusing anecdote relating to that picture.

Which one, which one... Yay I'm being helpful! Also, Chiselle is a casual weed smoker, which I may actually make an amusing reference to if we do Ameri's story arc about the magical book of cliches.

I've been trying to make Coin the calm, level-headed type. The one who can quickly adapt and create a new plan. I look forward to this next arc.
