So I had an idea from Ceffy's post. We need some excuse to get trapped somewhere together right?
What if the gang has to try to get Silver back to her house to keep her brother safe after the storm makes the path impossible to find? We get lost, shack up in the sawmill, couples of days pass, we find out way to Silver's house and her brother is fine.
Happy days.

Ameri is going to be so proud. Page's reputation precedes him, but God only knows what his actual name is!

It's all I could think of on short notice, and way past my bedtime.

Am I supposed to leave Silver out in the middle of nowhere until you guys decide to come find her (for some reason), or can I bring her to town?

I think you can have Silver come to town & interact with the other ponies. It's just at some point, she'd need to realize that she needs to get home to her brother due to the storm. That is when we get trapped in the old sawmill.

We may have to rethink the sawmill. We still could do an old abandoned mansion that's on the outskirt of town. A mansion that is rumored to be haunted.

I can imagine Flux helping chop firewood or something, but the rest will be difficult

I suppose it could've been owned by whoever first found gold in them thar hills, but it doesn't seem like there'd be many ponies worth lording your fiscal superiority over. Maybe a large cabin. A vacation home of a sort. Big enough that we don't all go completely insane being cooped up together .
